The three assessments were helpful in the process of critically analyzing myself as a leader. I scored high on task and technical skill on the Style Questionnaire and Leadership: Theory and Practice respectively. This aligned with my self-conception that when I am in a leadership position I favour task and concrete accomplishments over relational capital. Over the years I have often wondered if this is natural or if it has developed as a coping mechanism due to being in a highly relational organization.<\/p>\n
The disparity between the task\/relationship scores and the technical\/human skill scores surprised me; as did my conceptual skill being higher than my human skill. This helped me identify that I need to grow in how I relate to followers.<\/p>\n
This was further confirmed through the Leadership Trait Questionnaire where the lowest average score I was given by others was empathic. It was illuminating that I rated myself higher in this area than others did. The people who rated me the lowest in this area were the people I have the least relationship with.
