A lot of authors coined the term transformational leadership and with emerging era the definition is improved through some additions and deletions. As mentioned in Northouse (2016) “The term transformational leadership was first coined by Downton (1973). Its emergence as an important approach to leadership began with a classic work by political sociologist James MacGregor Burns titled Leadership (1978). In his work, Burns attempted to link the roles of leadership and followership. He wrote of leaders as people who tap the motives of followers in order to better reach the goals of leaders and followers (p. 18). For Burns, leadership is quite different from power because it is inseparable from followers’ needs” (Northouse (2016) pg. 162).

Due to a lot of conflicts in definition, it has been further divided into – Non-leadership, transactional, pseudo leadership and transformational leadership. But in a real world a true leader is one who is having characteristics having moral values, ethics, knows how to behave with their followers, can understand their feelings and establish a good link with them and can be able to become a real role model of such their followers.

A very good example of transformational leader is Mr. Narendar modi (prime minister of India), all the qualities of a leader is incorporated in him, he fulfilled all his promises, teach people a better way to live life and the distinguishing perception about leaders were usually once voted they never do any thing for the sake of people but he out broke all that and does everything in a best possible way he can and not only this he gained a lot of followers all throughout his journey which he earned by himself showing his charismatic characteristic. once upon a time he was a kind, normal man who used to sell tea and owns a tea stall, the journey from a tea stall to prime minister is what shows transformational leadership. I use to follow him a lot not only because he is the prime minister of India but also a true leader who knows how to deal with emotions of people and and his speech and knowledge about leadership is what helping all Indians being showered by his blessings.

A full range of leadership model as cited in Northouse (2016) pg. 168 in itself explains a lot that how a normal man who is and wants to become a leader can transform and about all the characteristics. It is necessary fro a leader to transform into leader because nobody in this world is having an inborn characteristic an individual can gain though experience.

Refrences :

Burns, J.
