Unit 4 Learning Activities, “Transformational Leadership”

Northouse defines transformational leadership as the process whereby a person engages with others and creates a connection that raises the level of motivation and morality in both the leader and the follower (Northouse, 2019, p.164). An example of a transformational leader, actually the model, would be Jesus Christ. He came to earth, expressed His vision, and gained followers. Leaders were servants and not lords, the poor were blessed and no cursed, and it operated from a platform of love and obedience to the Father and to your fellow man. (Williams, 2014, para. 4).

There were also a variety of ways in which Jesus spread his message which helped others understand His vision. He used parables, sermons, even symbols that were relevant to his context. These methods encouraged people and helped them buy onto His vision.

If we are to be transformational leaders, we need to have a strong set of internal values and ideals, and they are effective and motivating followers to act in ways that support the greater good rather then their own self interests (Northouse, 2019, p. 169)
