Through having a vision and a mission, a church staff can ensure that not only the staff are on board with creating innovative ways to use technology to share the Gospel, but that the majority of the congregation is also on board.

In regards to our church, most of our technology is used in the office during the week or on Sunday mornings through our projection and sound system. We have currently been trying to develop a new way to shift from using our current worship media, called Mediashout, to another, called EasyWorship. While some might believe this to be an easy switch, it is not. The reason for this is because people are involved and one always has to use extreme care when dealing with people. Also, they have to learn how to use this new program and some might not want to do that. Each of the A/V staff learns differently, therefore we would need to amend the plan to fit each individual (Northouse, 2019).

As an aside, do I want to just show up one day and say, “Hey! We’re switching to this, get used to it?” Of course! But I know that is not how things work. If you approach situations that have to do with introducing anything new in that way, people won’t be around for long.

Therefore our plan regarding our A/V staff is as follows:

Introduce the idea of using a new media program for Sunday mornings through showing the benefits of the new program as well as ease of use. Ask for feedback.

Point out that it will enhance the worship experience for the congregation and that we are part of the larger whole when it comes to providing an awesome, God-centred and God honouring worship experience.

Ask the A/V staff to view YouTube videos of the new media program in action. Ask for feedback.

Because we want the A/V staff to learn how to use this, we would then hire someone from an outside company to come in and provide professional training to our staff. This means that use, as a leadership team and an A/V team can learn how to use it properly, and secondly, that the A/V team feels empowered that we are pouring professional resources into them. Ask them how it made them feel after the training has concluded.

Once the training is over we would then have practice sessions using our Sunday School group or Youth Group before moving to the Sunday morning service.

Once a Sunday morning service happens successfully using the new media program, a strict rotation would be adhered to so that all of the A/V team has the chance to use the program on Sunday mornings, even if it’s just once.

We would then receive feedback at end of each Sunday from the individual who was on for A/V that Sunday.

The development of personal in the church is of the utmost importance because of the message we have to deliver. I am not saying this to diminish anyone else, I say this because even though some may be volunteers and some may be staff, there is a need for learning, growing, and new experiences regardless of your title or position.

References:

Kandampully, J., Bilgihan, A., Tingting, C.
