Navigation Menu

The TWU Inspire theme comes preset with a navigation menu near the top of every page that includes:

  • About Me a page you should edit to provide visitor an introduction to yourself.
  • Main Portfolio provides a way to see all artifacts in your portfolio. Beneath are sub-menus that provide a way to see the ones that are associated with the Foundation Courses, Student Learning Outcomes, and the TWU Ways of Knowing. The better you categorize artifacts as you create them, the more effective these menus can be to show the ones that match the categories.
  • Portfolio Index gives a way to see your portfolio like a Table of Contents, with links and counts of artifacts to the same categories used for Artifacts.
  • Blog If you create blog posts as journal entries, they will all appear here.

You can change anything on these menus, add new items, even arrange them differently via the WordPress menu editor. Find it in your Dashboard under Appearance -> Menus.

Make sure the selected menu is Main Menu (Primary Navigation). Click and drag any items in the menu display to re-arrange them. Use the Toggle button (far right) to open any menu item; you can change the text used on the menu label (like you might change About Me to be just About).

And you can add new menu items by using the content tools on the left side.

The TWU Hearts Theme has a second menu that can display links to your social media profiles. In this theme, they are displayed as icons in the bottom right of every page on your site.

Social media menu

When your site is set up, these icons just point to the general sites for the TWU Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and Twitter accounts.

You can customize this via the menu editor, found in the WordPress Dashboard under Appearance -> Menus. Make sure you change the selection of the menu to Social Link (Social Menu) and click Select.

Open any of the items to change the web address to your own accounts:

You can also remove any of these these that are not appropriate for you. Click and drag any of the menu labels to change the order. You can add other links by using the Custom Links option on the left. Enter the URL for your social media site, a name that describes it, and click Add to Menu (it must be a fairly common social media site for the icons to work).

If you do not want this menu on your portfolio, look towards the bottom of the editor under Menu Settings and uncheck Social Meni under Location. This will remove the menu from appearing on your site.
