The co-mingling of both approaches is a good approach in that leaders must serve both interests. Transformational servant leadership would be an ideal style when faced with a dynamic external environment and endeavoring to empower, encourage innovation and risk-taking amongst the team members.

According to Quinn and Spreitzer (1997), empowered followers are more effective, more innovative, and are transformational in the work they do. When employees are empowered, they perform better and to their full potential to overcome obstacles. In traditional leadership, upper management issue instructions to their employees who are responsible to complete tasks according to guidelines. Comparably, transformational servant leaders empower and motivate their followers to think and act, which develops self-confidence.

For these activities, you will read the following two chapters from Northouse and post your response to the group discussions on the questions below:

Learning Activity 1

Read Chapter 8: Transformational Leadership in your textbook as well as all journal articles.

Create a new post on your blog and prepare a 2OO word precis/synthesis.

Discuss what other real-world leaders, past or present, could be considered transformational leaders.

Categories for this post:

ldrs500

Unit 4

Learning Activity 2

Read Chapter 10: Servant Leadership in your textbook.

Watch Serving on Southwest and Maxwell’s Five Levels

Based on the readings and videos as well as the journal articles, prepare a 200 word precis/synthesis and post to your blog under the categories ‘LDRS500’ and ‘Unit 4’.

In addition to the precis, respond to the following prompts: How is awareness in the servant leadership approach different from emotional intelligence?
