I truly believe employee motivation and engagement goes a long way in organizations’ success but over time people start losing their purpose and the question is how strategic leadership can make sure it does not happen? According to Lepsinger (2010), performance depends on one’s perception of self-worth (p.51).

Reading this chapter made me realize about my recent experiences in my current job. The day’s anyone on team performs exceptionally well are the ones where we feel empowered and motivated. In my opinion, it is just not the duty of team leader but fellow workers as well to make each other feel proficient. For instance, every once in a while we play a little game at the office which is known as complimenting round. Every person tells the next one a personal and a professional thing they like about them. Simple things can go a long way in boosting someone’s confidence. This is what I have learned recently.

Another reason for disengagement as per me is the monotonous work which may lead to lack of interest. An innovative way of dealing with it is by setting SMART goals for the employees (Lepsinger R., p.53). These are specific, measurable, aligned, realistic and time-bound goals which will help the employees remain engaged.

The purpose of SLT is to focus on long-term productivity of the organization while maintaining a positive work environment where everyone plays their part and contribute to the achievement of goals.

Lepsinger, R.
