Photo credit<\/span>: Will Johnson, Nelson Star<\/span><\/p>\n She\u2019s small, yet fierce, and changing the world one child at a time.<\/span><\/p>\n Dr. Christine Perkins has always been a learner, having been very curious, taking any opportunity that came her way, and working around any challenge she faced with courage, tenacity and determination. With a background in theatre and journalism, she joined education after discovering her limitations for career advancement due to gender biases that existed at the time. <\/span><\/p>\n Christine is part of a \u201csecond wave\u201d of women who have forged ahead in a male dominated world. She gives credit to the many women who before her \u201cput on the pants\u201d to do the work of men, amongst men, to dispel the perceptions that there was no place for women in the workforce. Because of their hard work and grit, culture began to shift so that when it was Christine\u2019s turn, there was a path already forming for her to take. With the support of a few key male leaders and her family, Christine has demonstrated that a woman can make it to the top. <\/span><\/p>\n Christine\u2019s motto? \u201cIt\u2019s all about service to others and making the world a better place\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n Here the full interview here:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
