The essence of this story could be summed up with the following excerpt:
No one is happy unless he is reasonably well satisfied with himself, so the quest for tranquillity must of necessity begin with self-examination. We shall not often be content with what we discover in this scrutiny. There is so much to do, and so little done. Upon this searching self-analysis, however, depends on the discovery of those qualities that make each man unique, and whose development alone can bring satisfaction. (p. 17)

Based on the above excerpt, happiness can only be found from within and this process begins with a self-examination. I believe that this is in agreement with the traits leadership approach which aims to assess leadership by first looking introspectively at the innate characteristics of the leader (Northouse, 2016). Like happiness which in its purest form, exists within each individual, I believe that the very essence of leadership exists in its intrinsic value or in the traits which a leader possesses (Northouse, 2016, p. 29). In line with the except, I hold the view that the starting point for developing one’s leadership potential lies in evaluating one’s traits using existing traits assessments and other similar questionnaires, to establish one’s own strengths and weaknesses in relation to leadership (Northouse, 2016, p. 32). Lastly, I believe that it is after one identifies with one’s traits that other leadership approaches like the situational, behavioral, skills or others proposed by Northouse (2016), would be effective in developing one’s leadership potentials and possibly, additional traits that could make one a more effective leader.
I find the above relevant to my professional practice as I contemplate the results of the leadership traits questionnaire. The results have been based on the first step of self-examination. They suggest that self-assurance is a leadership trait which I need to improve on. Although the traits leadership approach suggests that traits cannot be taught or learned easily (Northouse, 2016, p. 32), if the result of the questionnaire is correct, my case is not one of a missing trait. Hence, all that I need to do is find effective methods for improving this leadership trait. Hopefully, this could be possible through other leadership approaches which I am yet to discover.

References
Northouse, P.G. (2016).
