1700: scenes from London life <\/a>\/Maureen Waller.\u00a0<\/strong>Waller captures the grit and excitement of London in 1700. Combining investigative reporting with popular history, she portrays London’s teeming, sprawling urban life and creates a brilliant cultural map of a city poised between medievalism and empire.<\/p>\n

\"\"\u00a069 A.D.: the year of four emperors<\/a> \/Gwyn Morgan.\u00a0 <\/strong>A strikingly vivid account of ancient Rome,\u00a069 AD<\/span>\u00a0is an original and compelling account of one of the best known but perhaps least understood periods in all Roman history. It will engage and enlighten all readers with a love for the tumultuous soap opera that was Roman political life.<\/p>\n

Dunn surveys the New Testament books from Matthew to Revelation, exploring and unpacking what they actually say about Jesus. Dunn’s Jesus according to the New Testament points to the wonder of those first witnesses and enriches our understanding of who Jesus is to us today.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Roman Gaul and Germany<\/a> \/Anthony King.\u00a0<\/strong>Drawing on many recent excavations throughout Gaul and Germany, this generously illustrated book\u2014co-published with the British Museum\u2014brings a wealth of archaeological findings to bear upon a crucial period in Roman history.\u00a0 King has interpreted the most recent research data available to reconstruct the Romanization of the provinces until its eventual decline.<\/p>\n

\"\"\u00a0Sailing the wine-dark sea: why the Greeks matter<\/a> \/Thomas Cahill.\u00a0<\/strong> Cahill escorts the reader on another entertaining\u2014and historically unassailable\u2014journey through the landmarks of art and bloodshed that defined Greek culture nearly three millennia ago. Granting equal time to the sacred and the profane, Cahill rivets our attention to the legacies of an ancient and enduring worldview.<\/p>\n
