Warren.\u00a0\u00a0Warren shows that the &#8220;bread of life&#8221; discourse\u00a0\u00a0in John bears no Eucharistic overtones. Instead, John plays on Mediterranean cultural expectations about the nature of heroic sacrifice and the sacrificial meal that established the identification of a hero with a deity. Warren traces a literary trope in which a hero or heroine&#8217;s antagonistic relationship with a deity is resolved through the hero&#8217;s sacrifice. Against this milieu, Jesus&#8217; insistence that his flesh be eaten demonstrates the Christology of the Gospel.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblicalstudies.org.uk\/pdf\/lachish_thomas.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>&#8220;The prophet&#8221; in the Lachish ostraca<\/strong><\/a> \/D. Winton Thomas.\u00a0The Lachish Letters are an important discovery in the study of Biblical Archaeology and shed much light on the last days of Judah.\u00a0 Thomas\u00a0 discusses\u00a0\u201cthe prophet\u201d\u00a0 \u00a0in the Lachish ostraca. Considering first the evidence provided\u00a0by the ostraca for the belief that a prophet is mentioned in them. With this evidence\u00a0established, he turns to a discussion of the prophet\u2019s identity, more especially with<br \/>\nreference to his proposed identification with Jeremiah and then deals briefly with the\u00a0question of the role played by the prophet.\u00a0 He ends with some observations on the kind of contact that may\u00a0rightfully be looked for between the ostraca and the book of Jeremiah.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Alloway Library added 32 titles to the collection in the past week.
