{"id":2575,"date":"2018-11-02T00:21:28","date_gmt":"2018-11-02T07:21:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/create.twu.ca\/myjourney\/?p=2575"},"modified":"2018-11-02T00:34:38","modified_gmt":"2018-11-02T07:34:38","slug":"the-best-medicine-is-to-stop-thinking-about-yourself","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/create.twu.ca\/myjourney\/2018\/11\/02\/the-best-medicine-is-to-stop-thinking-about-yourself\/","title":{"rendered":"The best medicine is to stop thinking about yourself"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Frederic Loomis: The best medicine is to stop thinking about yourself, and start thinking about other people<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dr. Loom took the time to reflect on what provided a peace of heart and a peace of mind as he closes the chapter of life.<\/p>\n<p>His assessment was square on, as persons who came to him for medical help or to visit loved ones, was often noticed as being stuck in the past. They spent most of the time crying \u2013 not about things they can change or about their loved ones, but about what they should have or haven\u2019t done. In essence, it was about themselves.<\/p>\n<p>Through this process, it took courage for him to have written these words of comfort and hope -characters leaders are required to display.<\/p>\n<p>So, as leaders, we are caught in the web where we are pushing forward with the desire to achieve our goals. Northouse, (2019) encourages us as servant leaders to place the good of the followers over the leader&#8217;s self-interest. \u00a0Before you are a leader, success is all about growing yourself. When you become a leader, success is all about growing others. \u2014Jack Welch.<\/p>\n<p>There is a fulfillment that one feels when we can see the life of another flourishing. It brings joy to know you were involved in the process.<\/p>\n<p>My journey has been to focus on developing people and providing them with the tools needed. This process requires that I am not focus on me, therefore engaging and being connected. The self-fulfillment Dr. Loomis felt, was because he not only served his patients well but connected with those he served. Maxwell, (2010), notes that connecting is the key. If we can realign our desires from being selfish to being people-centered, we will be able to transform ones thinking while engaging and connecting with others around us, therefore, adding value to their lives and having a sense of gratitude<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Maxwell, J.
