{"id":325,"date":"2018-10-06T22:37:47","date_gmt":"2018-10-07T05:37:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/create.twu.ca\/myjourney\/?p=325"},"modified":"2020-07-03T07:49:54","modified_gmt":"2020-07-03T14:49:54","slug":"learning-activity-3-themes-theories-and-concepts-personal-assessment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/create.twu.ca\/myjourney\/2018\/10\/06\/learning-activity-3-themes-theories-and-concepts-personal-assessment\/","title":{"rendered":"Learning Activity 3: Themes, Theories, and Concepts- Personal Assessment"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div class=\"public-DraftStyleDefault-block public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\">The success of any organization is strongly dependent on the kind of leadership that is on displayed. <span class=\"7fe6ff0d-c9f1-11e8-9d71-06daf9493e2e SuggestionMark SuggestionMark--language\">Hawng<\/span>, Hee-Jong et al., (2014) the source of differentiation and competitiveness advantage in the service industry lies in the ability of the employees who have contact with customers (p.66)<span class=\"45f6bd10-c9f1-11e8-9d71-06daf9493e2e SuggestionMark SuggestionMark--language\">. <\/span><span class=\"7f952648-c9f1-11e8-9d71-06daf9493e2e SuggestionMark SuggestionMark--language\">While<\/span> this is important the need to understand the leader&#8217;s background is critical and how he or she will fi<span class=\"45f6c38e-c9f1-11e8-9d71-06daf9493e2e SuggestionMark SuggestionMark--language\">x the organization.<\/span> Organizations then use various assessment to identify the appropriate fit (Northouse, p 39). While this is done at the initial stage, every leader needs to have <span class=\"45f6d038-c9f1-11e8-9d71-06daf9493e2e SuggestionMark SuggestionMark--language\">a<\/span><span class=\"45f6d038-c9f1-11e8-9d71-06daf9493e2e SuggestionMark SuggestionMark--language\"> follow-<\/span>up assessment to determine their effectiveness.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\n<div class=\"public-DraftStyleDefault-block public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\">In my follow-up assessment firstly, through the Birkman review, I have seen some of the very things highlighted through the Leadership trait questionnaire.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\n<div class=\"public-DraftStyleDefault-block public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\">I was scored high by those around me on all areas. I was not surprised but felt that there was still a lot more to be done in the perceptive area. The skill inventory scorecard indicates that I am skilled in both Human and technical skills with a moderate view for conceptual skill. None of this is surprising to me, but it is the past response of hiding away from the conceptual.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\n<div class=\"public-DraftStyleDefault-block public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\">\nTo put that into perspective, my self-concept is that of being a strong well-rounded leader who can create<span class=\"45f6e39b-c9f1-11e8-9d71-06daf9493e2e SuggestionMark SuggestionMark--language\">,<\/span> read and apply various concepts.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\n<div class=\"public-DraftStyleDefault-block public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\"><span class=\"7f9586d4-c9f1-11e8-9d71-06daf9493e2e SuggestionMark SuggestionMark--language\">As<\/span> a leader, I usually lead by relationship due to the context of the church. I have always felt that being task driven was due to the positional power and felt that it wasn\u2019t used properly. <span class=\"7f95997e-c9f1-11e8-9d71-06daf9493e2e SuggestionMark SuggestionMark--language\">So<\/span>, to make the shift and practice what is going against the grain, will be a challenge. This class is forcing me to think outside of the box and not to run away from the things that are my handicap. But to find ways to strengthen these areas that require growth.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\n<div class=\"public-DraftStyleDefault-block public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\n<div class=\"public-DraftStyleDefault-block public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\">Hwang, H., Kang, M., &amp; Youn, M.
