Unit 2 Activity 3: Survey Analysis
Overall, I found that the results aligned pretty well with my self-conception. However, I found it difficult to answer certain questions accurately because I take on different roles in different group dynamics. In a group where members are passive, I take on a larger leadership role. However, in a group where others are ready to step into the leadership role, I take on a supporting role instead.
I am surprised that I am fairly task-oriented. As an outgoing individual, I expected my leadership style to be more relationship-oriented. After analyzing my results, I am beginning to recognize the difference between me as a friend or wife, and me as a leader in a group. In different roles, my behaviour changes considerably.
In the Leadership Trait Questionnaire, my coworkers and husband gave me high scores for the friendly and outgoing categories, but sensitive and empathetic were my two lowest scoring traits. I am challenged to not just rely on my naturally friendly demeanor, but to really work on my ability to identify with others and to connect with them on a deeper level.

Ruth,
It is interesting to consider how we act and communicate when we are in different settings, including both our professional, community, and family lives. It is also quite possible that you act and communicate in similar manners, but that others’ perceptions are different as a result of their relationship to you. Definitely some food for thought!

Interesting thoughts Ruth! It is interesting to see how different roles and responsibilities can have quite a dramatic impact on the survey’s outcome. I know both from my Birkman assessment and the LTQ that my personality goes from extremely extroverted at work to extremely introverted at home. It sounds like your results also change relatively dramatically based on your different contexts. One comment I made to robtegelberg was that it would be interesting to collect results precisely from the various roles and responsibilities you have. For example, for me as a teacher, I could obtain separately: Students, Colleagues, Parents, and other school stakeholders/governance. My approach to each of these groups is different so to measure my LTQ so widely this time may not give a fair reflection. It sounds like you may have had similar findings.
