A Prayer for This Christmas

Yield. We yield to you Lord our hearts – our hopes, our disappointments, our aspirations, our anguish, our shame, our victories, our pride, our possessions, our relationships, our plans. We yield our past year and our coming year. We pray that the seeds sown during this past year will bear fruit to bless not only this generation, but the ones to come.

May this season of uncertainty yield unwavering, unshakeable trust in you.

May the months of disconnection yield deeper friendship with you.

May the injustice yield a righteous zeal for your justice, mercy, and love.

May the grief yield a deeper understanding of your comforting hand.

May the chaos yield a confidence in your sovereignty.

May the waves of fear yield souls attuned to the nearness and comfort of their Shepherd.

May the inability to see the future yield eyes firmly fixed on eternity.

May the times of unrest yield hearts that know the one place their soul can always find rest.

May moments of turmoil yield a knowledge of the peace that transcends all understanding.

May all experiences of loneliness yield an assurance that you are truly Immanuel – God with us.

Yield in us ears deeply attuned to your voice.

Yield in us eyes that share your perspective.

Yield in us hearts overflowing with thanksgiving, bursting with unshakeable joy, and rooted in relentless hope.

You are the triune God who makes a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland. We thank you. We praise you.

We yield to you and pray you would yield in us the fullness of your harvest.

Amen.
