At this point in my life, I have little desire to follow individuals because I have been doing that most of my life……everyone except the One whom I should have been following, that is.

However, impossible as it is to escape the media all around us, there are one or two individuals that I would choose for this assignment.

Lisa Bevere is the wife of John Bevere, and together they bring leadership to the organization Messenger International. Both are authors and speakers. Messenger International exists to “develop uncompromising followers of Christ who transform our world.” (MessengerInternational, n.d.). They are both examples of transformational servant leaders. They can both be followed on most social media platforms, but I follow them on their blogs which can be found here: https://messengerinternational.org/podcast/

There are two podcasts. The Messenger podcast explores leadership while the Conversations podcast talks about relationship issues within families. The reason that I would choose to follow these two individuals is because of the way they proclaim the truths of scripture in an uncompromising way. They speak about topics that are taboo in our culture. For example, Lisa speaks about the role of women and has written many empowering books about women, (Lioness Arising, Girls with Swords, and Without Rival), their role, and their influence that do not stray from the often unpopular notion that women and men are different, each having unique roles. I admire the way they both minister publicly, express their giftings in similar yet different ways, and both reflect the glory of God. Together they demonstrate to me how two people can compliment one another in marriage, bring glory to God as a unit, and transform society.

As Northouse (2016) has argued, I see leadership as something that occurs within the context of relationship and I feel that my role as a leader will be lived out in the relationships that I have with those who are within my sphere of influence. This view is in alignment with the values stated on the Messenger International (n.d.) website: “We believe that God has individually equipped us so that we can achieve His purposes for our lives, which is to know Him and make Him known in our world of influence”. John and Lisa Bevere are two people that I will continue to follow because they lead others to Christ and demonstrate and empower men and women to live our lives for His purposes as leaders in every sphere of our lives.

MessengerInternational (n.d.) About Us. Retrieved from https://messengerinternational.org/about-us/

Northouse, P.
