Hello Everyone!

Hello Everyone,

My name is Jessica aka as Jess, Jesse, Jessican, Jessicat. I will answer actually answer to just about any version of these. Trust me there are many.

I have worked in the healthcare field for almost a decade. I started out as a Care Aide and worked my way up from there. I have worked in hospitals and many different acute, long-term and palliative care settings. I have worked in various positions such as housekeeping, porter, staffing scheduling, care attendant, to name a few. I feel I have gained a lot of knowledge and understanding from a grassroots level in this field I always strive to do better and provide a better standard of care for our patients. Two and a half years ago I took a chance and enrolled in the TWU adult degree completion program. It transformed my life, the way I viewed myself and other people. I fell in love with the magical beast that is leadership.

I most recently in the last few years have been working in the home health sector with seniors. I love what I do and strive to do it better. Currently, I am involved in a new and exciting project to better B.C’s senior care. I am a huge advocate for seniors having access to needed care. I love to problem solve and make a difference in even one person’s life. I believe to my core that you can influence from wherever you’re at.

I grew up in Vancouver and am a city gal through and through. The last 14 years of my life I lived in East Vancouver. I work in the Tri-Cities home health office in Port Moody.

A year ago I moved out to Abbotsford with my husband and we bought our first home. We have been married 5 years this past July. We currently do not have kids unless you count our fur baby. Below is a photo of our dog Brisket the wonder rescue.

She has brought us so much joy and laughter to our lives. Animals have such a great way of opening our hearts and bringing us outside of ourselves!

After graduating from the TWU BA in leadership program I felt inspired and have been searching for my next academic step. I never thought in a million years I’d be back at TWU. God has an incredible way of opening unexpected doors for us to walk through. This door opened and I am so grateful to be here!

I am so excited to see where this leadership journey takes me. I’m looking forward to getting to know and grow alongside all of you.  One final thought I will leave you with is: hold your head high, always be proud of who you are or where you came from.

  1. Glad to have you aboard Jessica!

You have a great local understanding of our lower mainland environment and TWU. This is especially helpful to context with the many people making up your team in 501.

I look forward to the engagement with the course and the areas where your expertise adds to all of our learning.
    Doug
