Karamo Brown is most famous for his most recent role in an Emmy awarded reality t.v series call Queer Eye. Karamo is one of the fab five, a group of five guys who descend upon random people for one week and change their lives. The premise of the show is that they go and help people who are down on themselves and in a personal rut. They give the candidate a makeover from head to toe as well as a renovation of their home. Queer eye’s strength is that they treat the whole person not just the problem. Karamo’s role in the fab five is “the culture expert”, although I feel his role is more of a life coach, counselor role. Which comes naturally to him as he is a psychotherapist.
I follow Karamo on Instagram and Facebook, because I agree with his message of spreading kindness and encouragement. Almost every day he posts a video with an inspiring message. Karamo I believe is an emergent leader he is informed and constantly involved in verbal communication with what is going on not only in his own world but globally as well. One concept that my chosen leader espouses is “it is okay to be where you are. If you feel defeated and down on yourself you will get to where you want to be. You have the ability to grow this and make a change”
Karamo has 1.7 million followers and often starts his video posts with “hey friends”. He then proceeds to share his motivation. Being a reality t.v star his following is quite large. I find it impressive that he uses his social media platform to inspire and encourage people. One thing I think he could do quite well is lead people to words a common goal. With having over a million followers he has the follower ship to foster real change. He just needs to harness it and choose a direction. My advice to him would be to choose a direction, pick a goal and stick with it.
His values, ethics and values align with mine regarding leadership as we feel the same way; integrity and mutual respect should be at the root. People need to be treated like people of value. Individual strengths need to be recognized and utilized. Leadership is about people. Karamo also believes that we need to think about our words and choose them wisely as our words take root and grow. Words have the ability to build someone up or tear them down.
