Hi Sarah,
Thank you for your insight on Organizational Citizenship. Organizational citizenship I have experienced is when employees go above and beyond the tasks in their job description. I believe that organizational citizenship and organizational culture have a symbiotic relationship. In my current organization, I have seen first hand that it goes back to the basic principle of how you treat people. Recently in my organization, we absorbed a smaller office into our office. We brought in thirteen people to join our staff. Through this transition of welcoming these new people into our team we learned that when you remove people from a negative culture and serve them positively, they flourish. As a leader, it was disheartening to see all these talented people who were afraid to engage and share their ideas. Now that it has been a few months I have seen all thirteen come out of their shell and just shine. When you have a positive supportive organizational culture you will have organizational citizenship.
I am intrigued by your virtual suggestion box. Have you used this before? What are the parameters for employees to follow? Has it brought any negative results?
