I agree with you that if acute, residential and home support understood each other’s different roles we could provide a higher quality of care and present a more united team instead of three separate entities. Thank you for your suggestion of the standing agenda item. We do have daily huddles every morning at 10 am sharp I will be sure to add this to our agenda. Your idea of partnership meetings with interdepartmental staff to better understand roles is worth trying out.
Lepsinger dictates that “when communication is clear, and there is transparency about intent, when people understand what they can expect from the other person and how they will work together ” cooperation will happen (2010, p. 173). I think that our biggest stumbling block within the health authority is lack of interdepartmental communication and lack of understanding. If we took the time to educate other departments and specify what our roles are and how we work together as a team, it would move the organization in a positive direction.
