Norm, I really enjoyed reading about the three areas in which leaders in an organization (or business) can support and empower their employees to use critical thinking skills. The simplicity of the concepts of process, identity and time were easy to understand and can apply to any leader-follower relationships, not just in a businesses context.

My back ground is in healthcare which I think is similar to a business in certain aspects. I am a leader to a group of staff and it is my responsibility to carry out the organization’s vison, procedures and tasks. In addition, I have to hold my staff accountable and encourage them to support that same vision.
You highlighted in your post, “To achieve a change in process, managers need to focus on the outcome not the process.” I couldn’t agree more with this statement. Although I am not a manager, my obligations are to ensure quality patient care is delivered by staff in a way that meets organizational and nursing standards. The outcome is always quality care for the patients and families we serve. I find that it’s easy to get caught up within the details of the process but if the desirable outcome is achieved, then micromanaging the process seems counterproductive.

Thanks for sharing.
