Tracking the Trackers

This activity was enlightening! It was interesting to see that even though I don’t regularly use Firefox and only did a few minimal searches on it (while I continued the rest of my online activity through Google Chrome), there were still 98 third party sites connected to me.

I had only used Firefox to work a bit on my website, do a few google searches, and browse Facebook and Pinterest. However, other sites showed up, that I wasn’t even aware of, such as homesandland, amazon, artistsplay and linken. Then a multitude of others!

This exercise really raised my awareness of my activities online and the potential lack of privacy while even doing some basic browsing and searching online. I learned how to go to my settings in Chrome to delete cookies, clear my cache, and adjust my privacy settings. Thanks to Christina’s post on this and her suggestion about installing Disconnect for Chrome. I will be looking into it!
