Professional Practices

As this course is preparation for professional work in the field of Art and Design the professional practices component is particularly emphasized this semester. Most of the professional practices work will be gathered in the digital portfolio. The intention is that you will use this digital portfolio to apply for exhibitions and other opportunities following graduation.

Digital Portfolio

Students will complete their digital portfolios this semester. Your digital portfolio will allow you to promote your work after graduation so consider your professional goals as you put together your website.

Portfolios should be formatted to showcase your work professionally. Refer to artist/designer websites for inspiration. You may choose to use your current website or start a new one. Your website should be easy to navigate and contain all the information listed below. You may also include additional elements like social media links etc.

You will present your talk for feedback in class prior to the final talks.

Present an 8-10 minute artist talk. In your talk you may choose to discuss:

  • Your artistic interests
  • Process and genesis of the project
  • Materials and material significance
  • Artist Influences
  • Your inspiration for the project
  • Conceptual content

Your talk will be assessed on the basis of both content and presentation. Make sure you are familiar enough with your talk that you are not relying heavily on notes or a script.
