Georgeena Alphine’s blog about Malala Yousafzai had a focus on how Yousafzai is an inspiration. I must agree that she is an inspiration! Someone having such a global impact at such a young age is incredible. Furthermore, the fact that her influence has lasted far beyond that of a Youtube cycle speaks to Yousafzai’s character and chosen cause of education for girls.

In her post Alphine says, “It is easy to be a leader who just goes with the flow. But to be a leader having strength of will, character and firmness of purpose is not everyone’s cup of tea” (Alphine, 2018). Yousafzai is a great example of a leader with these values. She has exercised these values as she has fought for something much larger than herself. I think these values require a fight; not only for a cause, but the leader must also fight within themselves to uphold these values in their own life and leadership. Character, will and purpose all come at a cost, which is probably why they are “not everyone’s cup of tea” (Alphine 2018). This serves a great reminder to me that if I want to be a leader who exemplifies these values I must be willing to fight for them.
