Response to Rob Tegelberg Competencies blog post 8

Hi Rob, thank you for your perspective on working in the education field. It gives me great insight into the challenges you face. For one I loved Lepsinger’s lesson on “making sure the right systems are in place” (2010, p.206) because it is very relevant to my current place of work.  I like you believe followers have a responsibility to be adaptable. If an employee expects to be with an organization long term, they need to plan and anticipate change because it is through these processes a company grows.

Throughout the organizational life cycle, a leader is continually making decisions that are for the greater good. Having experienced being at the bottom of the food chain and undergoing a change from a grassroots level I could not see the big picture. Now my current role allows me to see the bigger picture and the direction the organization is going in.

Adaptation is necessary for healthcare we are always assessing, reassessing and then acting. There have been many instances where one decision seems like it is the best for all patients and it is not the case. In working with people just like you mentioned in your post, there is a need for flexibility in solutions. No two people are the same.  A big part of adaption is collaborating and listening to others which includes our co-workers as well as the clientele we serve.
