Things to be working on this week:

• Next class we will hear Lucia and Loumei’s reflections on pp 37-48 of Art & Fear. Make sure you’re reading along!
• Complete Mini Process Project 4: Extend a Project this week.
• Think ahead to your Mid-Term Review
  • Sign up for a slot on teams
  • Make sure you have completed the Mid-Term Review form (also on Teams) this asks you to:
    • Outline your plans for your work for the rest of the semester
    • Propose 2 exhibitions you plan to see
    • List some of the texts you plan to read for your annotated bibliography
  • Make sure all your work to date is complete and updated on your blog
• Continue to work on your Artist Influences. Update them in response to the feedback you received from your classmates.

Things to prepare for class this week:

• Complete Mini Process Project 3 this week. This is a collaborative project with one of your colleagues!
• Upload 8-10 Artist Influences to your blog for next class! Remember criteria I’m looking for are:
  • Choice of artists/designers is appropriate to the learner’s research focus- I want to see artists who are relevant to what you are doing now
  • Artists/designers are receiving critical attention from the contemporary art/design world. Artists/designers are primarily contemporary.
  • Evidence of depth of research— learner has gone beyond artists and designers they are familiar with, they have accessed a variety of sources
  • Images are properly labeled
• Next class we will hear Anna, Emmalie and Mojgan’s reflections on pp 23-36 of Art & Fear. Make sure you’re reading along!

Things to prepare for class this week:

• We will start our class hearing Amelia  and Janelle‘s reflections on pp 9-22 of Art & Fear. Make sure you have also read these pages and bring your book so you can engage with the conversation!
• Janelle will present her Personal Inventory Presentation (thanks for doing it this week!)
• We will have our first critique this week in your small groups! Please bring both Mini Process Projects 1 & 2 and set them up in the classroom for critique. Consider carefully how you install your work!
• Finally you will have a chance to get started on your Mini Process Project 3: Team Up. This is a collaborative project so consider who you might like to work with on this.
• You should also be working away on your visual cultural research as we go along, those deadlines will come up quickly!

For those of you who have not presented make sure you finish up your Personal Inventory Projects Part II. If you missed the reflection portion make sure you do that first! Visit the resource on Reflective Practices and select one of the practices (Good Time Journal, Examen or Creative Autobiography).

Please turn this in on Moodle, either as a link to the presentation or upload your PDF at least 1hr before class.

Your Mini Process Project 1: Transform Your Practice is also due this week September 29 to your blog. Remember I’m not looking for polished, perfect works here. I’m looking for:

• Evidence of risk-taking in media, concept or process. Artist moves beyond their comfort zone.
• Significant investment of time, effort and thought into the project.
• Evidence of inquiry: projects demonstrate authentic curiosity and inquiry.

This week your focus should be your Personal Inventory Projects Part II. If you missed the reflection portion make sure you do that first! Visit the resource on Reflective Practices and select one of the practices (Good Time Journal, Examen or Creative Autobiography).

You can also begin to think about your Mini Process Project 1: Transform Your Practice. This project is not due until September 29 but good to start thinking about it now! Remember I’m not looking for polished, perfect works here. I’m looking for:

• Do Part I of your Personal Inventory Project
  • You will need to review the Reflective Practices resource page to assist you
• Finally, watch the film Manifesto by German artist Julian Rosenfeldt
