Increased reliance on technology
With increase in modernization and growth in every sector people are developing and so the way of using technology which is indeed important from the aspect of development. As, this new era is all about saving time and making a lot within lesser time and not only in public but private sectors are using this technology. The dramatic increase of technology have been observed in communication and transacting businesses.
In context of communication we have been shifted from telegrams to mobile phones and fax through which work can be done in matter of few seconds. As, in context of United states and Canada postal service there are a lot of new advancements have been taken place as follows:
- Billing procedure has been made online. So, the use of paper and keeping invoices safely for further return policies are reduced.
- Online transactions through linked bank accounts is an efficient step for paying out the bills.
- Effective and fast transportation with communication with postal code improved the delivery of products to the right owners.
- Sorting of mail in offices was a cumbersome process earlier which got increased with use of sensitive machinery requiring less human skill and more robotic engineering.
Also, Retail sectors have been affected through technology like Walmart in following ways:
- With growing use of internet, People are using online shopping more than retail but the demand of distribution centers got increased.
- Use of return policy earlier requires invoices on paper but with use of technology data is saved and can be used in later context.
- Automatic purchasing machines reduces need of workers at stores. Hence, Increasing a total profit of the organisation and also prevent customers from being in a cue for long and waiting for their turn.
However, These posses a negative impact too. With rise in cyber crime.
As, most of the transactions are made online and due to this fact people who are efficient or hacking expert may hack software and use to fill their pockets through that transaction. Few people are not very much interacted with modern technology due to their backgrounds which leads to insufficiency to use this means of technology and found it difficult. Sometimes, in remote areas customers remain abide from the use of new technology. In my context earlier I never used to prefer online shopping because it never told me how the product is mostly during clothes shopping but now with reviews and quality approved check it has made me possible to shop online. Have you ever been suffered from wrong product ? The product you have seen online but get a totally different one and how you respond to that situation ?
Reading your blog was truly enlightening and I cannot believe I completely overlooked the rise in cybercrime while weighing pros and cons. Point well made. Indeed, technology has overtaken almost any sector but it has exposed it to growing cybercrime as well and safety of the information online should be a priority of every firm. For example, lately Facebook was in the headlines for information leak and it has cost the company a lot of money and user’s trust. Measures should be taken to avoid such scenarios. Predicting which emerging technologies are disruptive is difficult. However, as I’m from dental background and in our area of dentistry I have seen a a disruptive technology that is mobile dental clinic. This is the most recent approach as in India some villages are not graced with dental clinics. So to provide a good oral health to every individual by approaching and visiting those far of places through mobile dental clinic which is described as a clinic formed inside a bus where many of the dental treatment procedures can be carried out which is I found a disruptive potential of our industry.
With development of technology our workplace is one the best example as in dentistry the use of technology has been increased for example in earlier times a root canal treatment took 3-4 visits to be completed which with use of technology can be completed in single sitting along with crown placement. Many dental procedures are improved as seen in case of aesthetics where technology has made a remarkable development of artificial crowns called veneers and in many other dental procedures. So, as a whole use of technology has been increased and also advances dentistry providing more better treatment with lesser cost and in less time.
