In this project, I tried something I had ben interested in, but never experimented with before: painting with bubbles. I played around with paint, bubble fluid, and food colouring to get interesting shapes on a wooden panel.
An unexpected problem I faced was the weather. I forgot that bubbles don’t work well unless it’s sunny. The bubbles often popped immediately after being blown, so I had to be gentle and really experiment with angles and the best mixtures.
If I tried this again, it would definitely be on a hot day. I want to see a similar project with giant bubbles instead. And I would be able to have a broader range of tones if the bubbles were able to stay on the board for longer and release more colour. I would also try with more minimalism in the colour tones.
I don’t think I’ll use this for my Senior Studio project, but I can definitely see myself trying it again some point in the future.
