“To learn a practice means to experience the practice, practice it, tell about it, ask questions about it, read about it, write about it, practice it, do it, empower others to do it” (Cahalan & Foley, 2017, p. 12).

Thank you, Layla, for sharing with us your article, I did enjoy reading the points you outlined.

Practical wisdom.” When one had practical wisdom, Aristotle believed that it was enough to be virtuous and to know what was “right.” “Practical Wisdom” is the hands-on application of knowledge, experience, and wisdom. We need the experience to cultivate practical wisdom. Experience is the key.

The notion of what is right or wrong, and wisdom; the experience is key for practical wisdom. Experience comes from doing something repeatedly, learning from mistakes, making critical decisions and honing our skills to be able to do the “right thing” under the circumstances in a specific situation. Life is not black and white. To be able to meet the needs of an individual or particular group, we need to understand and able to recognize another person perspective and their unique circumstances to be able to offer the optimal course of action for them.  Practical wisdom is the path to realize our potential and create happiness. Weighing things differently, considering other’s viewpoints, I think it will lead to a new vision that has a positive impact on us.

“My practice with patients has gone unchallenged.  I do not routinely question why I prescribe a certain exercise or treatment, and nor do I question if my entire practice is still current best practice.”

Thank you for sharing your thought, I truly enjoyed reading your article and encouraged me to share with you some thoughts. Have you ever considered doing routine tasks differently? If so, you may have noticed reaching to a new inquiry; you may find wanting yourself to know more. The more you engage your routine work, the more experience, critical thinking and more desirable outcome you gain. I am a medical laboratory technologist who works in a lab environment dealing with patient`s samples and results. Through my work, I have gained experience through active engagement with my routine tasks and co-workers. the more we get ourselves involved, the more we harness our critical thinking skill.  IIts all about faith- beliefe- practice. I would like to share with you this article about critical thinking, new grads, and experienced nurses.

Blog Post 1: Leadership Defined

What do you think about the power of the patient? How can someone in a provider role collaborate in leadership with a patient?

Interprofessional collaboration is the key to a partnership between a team of health provider and the patient.  In a collaborative and coordinated approach to shared decision-making around patient’s health; role clarification and communication have vital importance. Nurse-patient collaboration is crucial for the treatment, tolerance, and success. Therefore, considering the well-being of the patient and the outcome of this oriented service may have a tremendous impact on patient healing process. Transparency in a patient relationship and listening to their feedback, considered essential for me as a healthcare provider. Hence, determining patients needs and measure their satisfaction, will have a positive impact on healthcare partnership. Healthcare organizations should make it easy for a patient to seek help when they need, obtain service and voice complaints. Speaking on that behalf, determining patient needs will set the goal for good service. I learned from one of the courses which relate to my work area in the laboratory that patients need are:

  • Stated needs
  • Real needs
  • Perceived needs
  • Cultural needs
  • Unidentified needs

The best way to understand these needs is to ask for patient feedback; then patient satisfaction measurements provide insight in transforming service with evidence, where improvements might be required. The patient’s satisfaction measurements must be tracked as a quality indicator for the provided service. I believe the patient is in a good position to influence the process of improvement.

Thank you Dr. Strong

Dear Dr. Strong,

It’s me! I am the super quiet. I am a hardworking student who tried to do the best due diligence work to read and learn through the units and do assignments on time and sometimes, they are not on time. Thank you for all chances that we have, and your time that you gave me and everyone to support our needs in this learning process. Thank you for your time grading our assignments. Thank you for seeing the best of all your students. Thank you for allowing me and all of us to have our voices heard especially in unit eight, It was an excellent opportunity to learn how to take action to correct the problem professionally. Dr. Strong, you extracted every great thought that we have learned, It’s appreciated to know someone genuinely cares about our understanding process.
I will go forward and be better learner and listener because of the lessons I learned from LDRS 591-OL.

Sincerely,

As noted, consistent findings between replicated studies is a good indication of the study’s accuracy. What I noticed for relatively “new” research topics, there are few studies to compare with one another to gage the accuracy of the findings. How would you suggest evaluating the credibility of a study’s finding if there is little literature about a topic to compare the findings to?

Researchers try to get their research published as a final step in the research process. They aim for publication in professional journals to ensure the most appropriate readership and potential contribution to professional practice. Peer review is a quality control mechanism that provides the credibility of the findings and overall the research. Rigorous method, the trustworthiness of the documentation, strength, and weakness any practical or theoretical implication will add to the value of the research. The evidence is relevant and valuable in a decision-making process, therefore, evaluating the findings has to resonate with the evidence. Authority- evidence base, a reliable author would provide a reader with no doubt the answer to any questions related to the findings if it scrutinized adequately.

Stating the limitations of a study can help readers determine the validity of the study and to understand some of the biases in the study. However, since the weaknesses are being pointed out, does stating the limitation strengthen or weaken the results of the study?

Limitations are outlined at the conclusion of the discussion section as an acknowledgment of the need for further study. The limitation should be reiterated, so it could direct the researchers about how applying a different methodology might address the research problem more effectively in a future study. An underlying goal of the scholarly research is not only to show what works but to demonstrate what doesn’t work or what needs further clarification. The study limitations focused on shortcomings in the extent of the reasons that researchers chose to use specific research approach at the beginning of their research study.

In response to Tom Williams’ post- LA 7.1, Thank you for the useful information provided

Creswell (2013) outlines that mixed method approach is used widely in mainstream media already. My question is, do you think people have a natural personal preference towards connecting with data or stories more? If so, where does this come from?

Emotions are incredibly important for all human interactions, and they are integral to connecting with others. Although you can, of course, get an emotion across in words, but sometimes reading other people’s faces for emotional cues make a difference.

I believe, its both to a certain extent, and depends on what you are approaching or trying to solve a problem if it persists. Sometimes you may prefer to go with data that support your search and give generalization for the situation you have if needed to be generalized. On the other side, you may need to have shared stories from experts to present a different form of data that have “voice,” ” expression or facial cues.” Hence, any feelings you trying to decode, and they are needed to reveal on a particular point, they are necessary to investigate.

In response to Joshua Linkletter’ discussion question: Is there a way to combine quantitative and qualitative research studies that would add value to one’s research?

Plano-Clerk & Creswell (2015) stated: “many of today’s research problem calls for both explanation and exploration” (p.381).

Thinking of using a combination of qualitative and quantitative data can improve an evaluation by ensuring that the strengths of another balance the limitations of one type of data. Therefore, providing that understanding enhanced by integrating different ways of knowing. Evaluation of invested both quantitative data (numbers) and qualitative data (text, images) disclose to the importance of planning how these will be combined. I believe its an approach to specific extent solving a problem and answer your research question.

Question:

Is it possible to apply the principles of servant leadership in situations where the leader lacks the charisma of a messiah or an extraordinary person?

My question was informed from the conceptual framework presented in the study of servant leadership (Sendjaya & Sarros, 2002), one of the leaders was an extraordinary person while the other was a messiah. I could not help thinking about the character of the leaders – Leo and Jesus Christ; if they had no charisma, would their “servanthood” have been noticed?

My response;

Charisma is a result of excellent communication interpersonal skills, as these skills can be learned and developed. So according to your question, they can be developed. Its all about interacting with people around you and try to meet their needs positively. Being confident about supporting others when needed and applying positive thinking optimistically. It’s the notion of the SL movement to transform to meet the needs and interest, which opposed to their needs. I did read the article: Servant leadership: Its origin, development, and application in organizations, by (Sendjaya & Sarros, 2002), and I enjoyed and learned from it the notion of SL.

In response to Tom Williams Question- LA 5.4

What are some red flags shown in methodology that can lead to discounting the quality of a research paper?

My response;

I believe lack of prior research, sample size, measures used to collect the data, lack of reliable data should flag you when you do your research paper.

Have your standard measure at the beginning of your review, and ability to acknowledge your limitation will help out in troubleshooting the undesirable outcomes if its present. Understanding the critique of the statistics used help you to find what measures needed in the study and how to interpret them to relate to your research paper if its required.
