As a leader in your industry, how do you integrate new technologies (lab testing, online patient access to medical records, etc.) with the face-to-face connection between patient and provider? Do you think there are some activities in health-care that should be completed by human beings? If so, how can those experiences be deepened or strengthened through technology?

From what I understand, and reference to my blog,

Collaborative care model approach through an interactive system that connects the patient to their doctors, pharmacist, dietitians, exercise professional, lab results, etc.  However, one of the idea that I was thinking about considering, if the patient needs to have medication, doctors can place the order for the patient through an integrated system that connects to nearest pharmacy or any available pharmacy or any reference to the patient. I believe this type of integrated system will help to reduce therapeutic turn around time through waiting or finding another pharmacy; which in regard, provides patient with manageable turnaround time.

Another application of the integrated system is a mobile phlebotomist, to enable patients to have their blood work done when they are at home without the need to go to the nearest lab or clinic. They can place their order through the system and someone will attend the order. I think this will facilitate healthcare service and empower the patient care system. In addition to, the POCT devices that are available in doctors ‘offices or pharmacies, helps diabetic patients and enable them to manage their treatments and health based on the results.

I believe any integration in the healthcare system will assist in effective patient management integration as a whole. Considering professional experience and patient experience with the feedback provided by patient or both on the service will help the clinician in their decision-making and have benchmark quality of service. Therefore, considering identifying the care gap, risks, engage patients, manage care, measure the outcome in a defined population, and data integration; hence, communicating them in two ways will have an insight of sustained multi functional-integrated system. Learning and having insight from the best practice will participate in the integration.

Other applications that provide patient care are;

  1. The patient portal, which available for patient 24/7 anywhere through the internet connection; however, in British Colombia my ehealth is an alternative approach which provides secure access to any confidential information related to patient’s results.
  2. Considering other forms of communication that we have here in BC like HealthLink BC which connected to nurses, dietitians, exercise professionals, Pharmacist.
  3. Implementation of the TELUS Health Wolf EMR (Continuum, 2013), in which they provide secure access to vital information to their patients. The continuity of care that enhances and empowers patients in managing their health. Integrated primary care team, which assist in accelerating the speed of transferring the information and patient management quality when met the needs of the patient.

The best of life is always ahead, always further on” (Sir William 1940, as cited in Watson, 1951, p.267).

My decision-making process influenced by many factors. Experience or what I call it “learning lesson” is one of these factors, Knowledge, Cultures, organizational goals, relationships, and shared information. Some of my decisions stemmed from self-confidence about what I learned and repeated every day, which helps me respond quickly to situations. Acknowledge my mistakes and take the necessary steps to correct repair or amend the case. I relate to my emotions or other emotions which also affect and influence my decision. Work style and delegating work participated significantly in my decision-making process in a way that I can think in too many directions.my decision-making and critique approaches to thinking or handling have been craved to learn more about servant leadership orientation. I learned to evaluate scholarly research articles and the method used and how it benefits the study to answer the research question and It all based on evidence, and what I meant by that decision-making evidence-based. I learned it through all units, how to apply these lessons wisely.

I learned what shaped a good leader is a capacity and ability to lead a team and ourselves through the difficult or adverse situation while keeping up the team. Furthermore, the motivation that can take the team extra miles in their endeavor.

“The servant-leader is a servant first… It begins with the natural feeling that one wants to serve. To serve first. Then conscious choice brings one to lead … The best test and the difficult to administer is this: Do those served grow as persons? Do they, while being served, become healthier, wiser, freer, more autonomous, and more likely themselves to become servants? And, what is the effect on the least privileged in society; Will they benefit, or, at least, not further be deprived? (1970,p.15; as cited in Northouse, 2016, p.220). What a great lesson in these words! Definitely, it’s the word that I will have it in my desktop from now and on. Creating the opportunity for someone in your team to grow within the organization, it’s the ability that servant leader ownership.  The transformation that happened through servant leadership process within leader-follower oriented relationship towards the attainable goal has a tremendous takeaway lesson. To function within the transformational servant model, it may require the whole organizational structure to become fluid and function like the sand in an egg timer that flows both ways (Page & Wong, 200, p. 69). Leadership is a journey and the leader of that ship who helps to make the way safe and authentic. The effective system is useful when people who make them are effective. The positive use of power in a servant leadership approach when influencing the situation; starts with love, humility, and altruism.

“The best of life is always ahead, always further on” (Sir William 1940, as cited in Watson, 1951, p.267).

Thank you for sharing your thoughts about FedEx company, and regard to your question: What are the key traits or abilities of a leader which can contribute to the ability of foresight in your opinion?

Referring to the question and the quote that I excerpted from your post, “According to Malgeri’s (2010) definition about foresight which “can be considered a behavioural inclination, referring to an individual’s tendency to devote a significant amount of time engaged in thought or activities concerning the future” (para. 1).”

I think, and by looking to keywords “tendency to devote a significant amount of time engaged in thought,” where it links to knowledge, experience, and the outcome is skilled. Thinking of “activities concerning the future,” it links to increase awareness to surroundings. Regarding foresight, foresight encompasses within servant leader’s ability to know the future. So, its ability to predict based on what is occurring in the present and what has happened in the past (Northouse, 2016). The ability of a leader to be a visionary (Northouse, 2016) for the organization, always relates to the knowledge and strength of solving problem, learn from failures, and considering the environment that influences any decisions- I think- it will enable the leaders to predict the future.
